Indian grad students studying in the US are finding the summer hard. Those who hoped to get summer jobs discovered that for the first time there are no jobs.

Employers cut jobs due to soaring fuel prices and a slowing economy.

The US Department of Labor reported that the economy has lost about 438,000 jobs. The unemployment rate is 5.5 per cent.

The Labor department reports that 5.4 million Americans were working part time either because their working hours had been reduced or because they could not find full time employment.

In the political spectrum, there is growing concern that there needs to be more aggressive action by the federal government to change the situation.
